Our Story
In the heart of Matale, Sri Lanka, lies the Bandarapola Lodge, more than just a home for our family—it’s a testament to three generations deeply rooted in agriculture. Our journey began with my maternal grandfather, a steward of the land whose passion for organic farming and traditional methods shaped our values and practices.
Today, we proudly uphold our family’s heritage, nurturing a diverse array of crops that thrive in the fertile central hills. Pepper vines climb Gliricidiatrees alongside fragrant clove trees, while nutmeg and its delicate counterpart, mace, flourish under the tropical sun. The earthy warmth of cinnamon intertwines with the robustness of coffee plants, and cocoa trees bear the promise of sweet indulgence.
Our commitment to organic farming isn’t just about sustainability; it’s a way of life. Each crop is lovingly hand-harvested, ensuring the highest quality that resonates with the rich soil and lush surroundings of Matale. Beyond the crops, Bandarapola Lodge stands as a cornerstone of our rural community, offering steady employment throughout the year.
We take pride in supporting local villages, preserving their traditional farming methods, and enabling families to earn supplemental income. It’s a symbiotic relationship where our success is intertwined with the prosperity of those around us.
As we look to the future, our story continues to unfold amidst the rolling hills and verdant fields of Matale. Bandarapola Lodge remains a beacon of sustainability, tradition, and community—a legacy we cherish and nurture for generations to come.

A planter by profession and a humanitarian at heart, his vision for Bandarapola Lodge was always about being an integral part of our local community and growing and developing together. His love of animals and especially Elephants were legendary.
